Leon, Decatur County, Iowa
November 01, 1894

Mrs. Martha GAMMON died at her home in Eden township, County, Iowa, Wednesday, October 17, 1894. MARTHA ROBINSON was born in Washington county, Indiana, Feb. 19, 1819. Was united in marriage to GEORGE W. GAMMON, March 29, 1839, and moved to Iowa in 1849. Their union was blessed by eleven children, all of whom are living, except one son WILLIAM, who died in his thirteenth year. Nine of the children were with her during her last illness, and five of them were at her bedside when the death angel summoned her home.

She joined the Christian church when quiet young and was a devoted and consistent church up to the day of her death.

She was esteemed, respected and loved by all who knew her; a remarkable example of patience and kindness. The entire community in which she lived have sustained an irreparable loss. Her miss that sweet, gentle voice that smoothes and quiets as only a mother’s voice can. And will cherish her memory for cheerfully sharing with him the burdens that necessarily came to all along the dusty road of life.

A large a neighbors and friends attended a short and impressive funeral service at the house and followed the remains to the Dye Cemetery* where she was tenderly laid to rest in the grave to await the resurrection morn.

*TRANSCRIBER'S NOTE: She is buried in Meek Cemetery; however, it may have been called Dye at some time prior to being called Meek.
