DEATH NOTICE:

(The Leon Journal-Reporter Leon, Iowa May 2, 2012)

PIERSON, Alfred Mervin, 76, of Leon, Iowa died Sunday, April 29, 2012 at the Lamoni Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Visitation is open after 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 4, 2012 at Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, with the family greeting friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon with Pastor Dale Short officiating. Cremation will follow the funeral, with interment at a later time in the Leon Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established by the family.

ALFRED MERVIN PIERSON ... Alfred Mervin Pierson, age 76 of Leon, Iowa, was born July 28, 1935 in Pottawattamie County and died April 29, 2012 at Lamoni Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Lamoni, Iowa.

Alfred attended school in Cumberland, Iowa. He farmed in Decatur and Wayne Counties and later worked at McGahuey John Deere Implement in Leon. In 1972, Alfred began many years of being a bulldozer operator.

On December 8, 1973 he married Joann Moore at Blythedale, Missouri. They made their home in Leon.

The things Alfred loved most were running the dozer, being at the farm, and playing with his grandkids.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ida and Edgar Pierson; brother Junior Pierson; parents-in-law, William and Frances Moore; grandson Gabriel Lish; and brothers-in-law Roy Smith and Jim Moore.

Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Joann Pierson of Lamoni; son Mervin Pierson and wife Erin of Shelly, Idaho; daughter Roselie Rotich of Des Moines, Iowa; four step-children Teresa Foland and husband Rodney of Bedford, Iowa, Linda Roark of Leon, Grove Roark of Des Moines, and Wes Sarnowski and wife Saundra of St. Joe, Missouri; 7 grandsons: Aaron, Brett, Bryce, Broc, Mickey, Forrest, and Teyten; 4 great grandchildren: Noah, Trinity, Parish, and Daislyn; brothers and sisters: Betty Smith of Leon, Lucille Newton and husband Gary of Atlantic, Iowa, Curtis Pierson and Judy of Leon, Gene Pierson and wife Loretta of Garden Grove, Iowa, and Kathy Fulton and husband Alphie of Leon; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
