DEATH NOTICE:

(The Leon Journal-Reporter Leon, Iowa May 9, 2012)

HARDEN, Gerald Eldon, 85, formerly of Davis City, Iowa, died on Wednesday, May, 2, 2012 at the Lamoni Nursing and Rehabilitaion Center in Lamoni, Iowa. Funeral services were held at noon on Monday, May 7, 2012 at Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon , Iowa, with Elder Bill McElroy and Pastor Terry Roberts officiating. Interment was held in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Lamoni, Iowa.

A memorial fund has been established by the family.

GERALD ELDON HARDEN ... Gerald Eldon Harden was born on January 8, 1927 in Decatur County, Iowa. He was the oldest of seven children born to Eldon Walker Harden and Sarah Marie [Horney] Harden. Gerald died May 2, 2012 at the Lamoni Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Lamoni, Iowa at the age of 85 years.

Gerald was baptized in the Davis City River at the age of 16 into the Church of Christ. He attended country schools and then graduated from Lamoni High School in 1945.

On May 26, 1946, Gerald married his high school sweetheart, Frances Paist. Two children blessed this union: Linda Joyce in 1948 and Maurice Eldon in 1951. Gerald and Fran enjoyed 62 years of marriage, working side by side.

Gerald loved sports and was proud of the fact that he was named All Conference Center as a 119 lb senior. He bowled for several years on a local league and was proud of his trophies. Through his life, Jerald did custom butchering, worked at Kneip Packing Plant, managed the Lamoni Locker, and was a meat cutter at Lamoni Hy Vee and K Bar C Supper Club. His true love, other than Fran, was farming with his John Deere tractor and raising acres of garden every summer.

Preceding Gerald in death wee his parents, beloved wife, Fran, Brothers, Ivan Harden and Don Harden and sister, Lois Meyers.

Left to treasure his memories and many stories are his children, Linda (Church) Boothe-Braby of Davis City, Iowa, and Maurice (Stephanie) Harden of St. Joseph, Missouri; five grandchildren: Chris (Tracey) Boothe of Ames, Iowa, Curtis (Missy) Boothe of Leon, Iowa, Bradley Harden and fiance Andrea Gillien of Padova, Italy, Nicholas (Mary) Harden of Peoria, Illinois, and Lindsay Harden and Scott Tanquary of Chicago, Illinois; seven great-grandchildren: Sydney, Mack, Raegan, Carter, Matthew and Samuel Boothe and Adalyn Grace Harden; siblings: Bob (Elaine) Harden of Humboldt, Iowa, Ruth (Danny) Warren of Leon and Richard (Janice) Harden of Lineville, Iowa.
