DEATH NOTICE:

(The Leon Journal-Reporter Leon, Iowa April 11, 2012)

DALE, Barrett Lee, 87, of Chillicothe, Missouri, formerly of Decatur County died on Thursday, March 29, 2012 in Chillicothe. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at New Salem Baptist Church in Pleasanton, Iowa, with Rev. Lee Havemeier officiating.

Obituary -

BARRETT LEE DALE ... Barrett Lee Dale, was born September 5, 1924, at home in Hamilton Township, Decatur County, Iowa to Virginia Ethel [Schoonover] Dale and Chester Earl Dale. He departed to be with the Lord on March 29, 2012 in Chillicothe, Missouri.

Barrett grew up on a farm in the Valley below New Salem Church. He attended school at High Briar Country School and attended Leon High School.

Barrett joined the Merchant Marines March 1945 and served on the SS Edward Canby. He received his honorable discharge from the Coast Guard from that ship January 9, 1946. He continued to help out with the family farm until he was married.

Barrett was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth Robertson on November 12, 1948. This union was blessed with two children, Jackie Lee and Kathryn Jolene. Barrett and Mary moved to Kansas City, Missouri, where Barrett worked at the Fairfax Airplane Factory. They returned to Decatur County and purchased the "Still" place on the Pleasanton Road. They then lived in Leon and later in Indianola.

Barrett worked at various jobs including a farmer, delivery truck driver, construction worker, heavy equipment operator, mechanic and the driver of an 18 wheeler. He always provided for his family,, who he loved with all his heart. He was a great father who made sure, along with his faithful wife, that his family would follow after God. There was never a vacation they didn't find a church to worship in on Sundays. His children were blessed with a Christian Heritage, which they will be eternally grateful. Barrett was also a great example of a hard worker and provided for his family.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife Mary Dale; brother Joe Dale (Glada); sister Thelma Rippey and Helen Deemer (Ralph).

Survivors include son Jack L. Dale (Lana) of Wheeling, MO; daughter Kathy Cluney (Mike) of Des Moines, IA; granddaughters: Anamarie Redding (Shawn) of Des Moines, IA, Kelly Havemeier (Lee) of Griswold, IA, Jaci Acuna (Bryand) of Indianola, IA, Julie Thatcher (Scott) of Des Moines, IA, and Jennifer Dale of Wheeling, MO; grandsons: Jack Dale, Jr. (Renee) of Kansas City, MO; Nathaniel Dale (Holly) Newton, IA and Ramen Purcella (Amber) of Altoona, IA; 15 great grandchildren: brother Orville Dale (Ruth) of Lamoni, IA; brother-in-law Bob Rippey of Leon, IA; nieces, nephews and many friends.
