MAUDE CHASTAIN

Maude Bruner Chastain, was born at Dexter, Dallas County, Iowa, Sept. 24, 1881, the daughter of Joseph and Kate Bruner, and died Sept. 1, 1974 at Westview Acres.

Her girlhood was spent in Des Moines, where she attended grade and high school. Later the family moved to a farm near Leon, where she taught country school.

On Aug. 20, 1902, she was united in marriage to Frank E. Chastain. To this union were born four children: Paul and Harold of Leon; Katherine (Mrs. Clell Tarrence), Dodgeville, Wis.; and F. Wendell, Corydon.

Survivors are the four children; nine grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; one sister, Josie Chapman, Long Beach, Calif.; one nice and two nephews.

Her parents, her husband and two sisters, Leona Dockstader and Zola Burnett, preceded her in death.

She was a member of the Leon Christian Church and a charter member of the Priscilla Club. She was active in the women's work of the Farm Bureau as chairman of home projects and worked many years in the women's exhibits at the Decatur County Fair.

She lived 57 years on their farm in Eden Township before moving to Leon. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in August before his death in November of 1960
