DEATH NOTICE:

BUCKINGHAM, Benny Lyle, 76, of Newport, Oregon, died on Sunday, January 9, 2012 in Newport. Grave side funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 16, 2012 at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon with full military honors. Arrangements were through Bateman Funeral Home.

BENNY LYLE BUCKINGHAM ... Benny Lyle Buckingham, 76, of Newport, Oregon, died on January 8, 2012 in Newport.

He was born June 29, 1935 to Virgil and Hazel Buckingham in Leon, Iowa. After high school, big Ben, as he was known, joined the Air Force and served his country honorably during the Korean War. He married Sally Ann Meacham, who passed away in 1991.

After his service in the Air Force, he became a long haul truck driver. He loved to spend his time rebuilding and painting classic cars. He also enjoyed fishing and having barbecues with his CB buddies and their families.

His greatest love was to spend time with his family, his little grand dog Norman and his little black kitty.

He is survived by his daughters, Lisa Buckingham and her partner Mark Chase of Newport, Becky Parker of Portland and Beth (Joe) Biornstand of Gresham; siblings, Larry Dwayne Buckingham of Iowa, Janis Wolf of Colorado, Joyce Hicks of Arizona and Karla Wilson of Utah; grandchildren, Ashley Looijenga of Portland, Samuel Biornstand of Germany and Sarah Biornstand of Gresham; and two great-grandchildren.

Grave side funeral services with full military honors were held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 16, at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
