DANIEL NED EAKES ... Daniel Ned Eakes, age 59 of Davis City, Iowa, the son of Raymond Leonard and Geraldine Bernice [Boggs] Eakes, was born September 15, 1952 at the Decatur county Hospital in Leon, Iowa. He died at his home in Davis City on Saturday, January 21, 2012.

Danny spent all of his life in Decatur County. He graduated from Central Decatur schools in Leon with the Class of 1971. On August 28, 1976 Danny was united in marriage to Mabel Jean Lincoln. He and Jean were blessed with two children, Jerri Amanda and Damon Tyrel.

Dan spent most of his early years farming for Joe Hamaker and Clarence Rollins and raising hogs south of Davis City. Later he drove truck for Doug Hullinger before starting to work for South Central Co-Op for the next 19 1/2 years. When Danny's health failed leaving him unable to work, "Popee", as they called him, spent his time spoiling his grandchildren, Luke, Madi, Lynn, and Wyatt, when he wasn't at dialysis. Dan enjoyed metal detecting and was very knowledgeable about coins. He loved sharing that with his grand kids too. He was also an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. Dan loved going for long rides in the country and spending time with neighbors on the front porch. He encouraged all of his grand kids to do their best, especially in school. He also took great delight in joking around with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Kathy Eakes, and brother Marty Eakes. He leaves to cherish his memory, wife Jan Eakes of Davis City; daughter Jerri Murphy and husband Brian of Leon; son Damon Eakes and wife Amy of Lamoni; grandchildren, Luke Huff, Madison, Lynn and Wyatt Eakes, and Lillie and Wyatt Murphy; brothers, Leonard Eakes of Eagleville, Missouri, Brian Eakes and wife Denise of Galena, Kansas, Jay Eakes of Cainsville, Missouri, and Todd Eakes of Iowa City, Iowa; sister Judy Eakes of Leon; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and friends.
