DEATH NOTICE:

SCHOONOVER, Flossie Irene, 94, of Lamoni, Iowa and formerly of Davis City, Iowa, died on Friday January 20, 2012 at her home in Lamoni, Iowa. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday January 23, 2012 at the Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa with Pastor Dale Short officiating. Interment was held in the Davis City Cemetery, Davis City, Iowa.

FLOSSIE IRENE SCHOONOVER ... Flossie Irene Schoonover, age 94, formerly of Davis City, Iowa, was born February 17, 1917 to William Thurman and Nellie [Huntley] Toney near Terra Haute in Decatur County, Iowa. She passed away on January 20, 2012 at her home in Lamoni, Iowa, after living a full and joy filled life with her family and friends.

At age 17, Flossie married Raymond South. To this union was born a son, Donald. On August 1, 1938, Flossie married David Hyder Schoonover. They had a son, Harold. She loved her boys, their wives, and all of he grandchildren.

Flossie had many jobs during her lifetime. She and Dave owned and operated a restaurant and bar, the Davis City Cafe and the Davis City Tavern. She later had Flossie's Used Furniture Store in Davis City. She loved going to auctions to purchase furniture to be sold in her store. Dave was always helping her haul items home. She worked at the Lamoni Welcome Center for six years and then the Lamoni Service Center for nine years until recently through the Green Thumb Program. Flossie made many friends with her loving, helpful ways while working there.

Many people have hobbies; Flossie's hobby was to keep busy. She was always going ninety miles an hour. for such a short lady, it was hard for anyone to keep up with her when she starting walking. She never wanted to waste a minute. The only time she ever slowed down, was at night to watch her television shows. Freda Osborn was a dear friend to Flossie. They liked to go play Bingo and go to the casino together. At 94 years old, she still loved to go and play the slot machines.

Flossie was the last surviving child of Bill and Nellie Toney. Her parents; husband David; brothers, Opal Wayne "Oase" Toney and wife Louise and Melvin "Rube" Toney; sisters, Mae Williams and husband Frank, Louva Dale and husband Darrel, and Juanita "Sug" Kiddie and husband Dale; niece Luella Snethen; granddaughter Ashley Jayne Parkhurst; and grandson-in-law Clarke Eldon Perkins, all preceded her in death.

Surviving family include her sons, Don South and wife Norma Kidder, Missouri and Harold "Cotton" Schoonover and wife Joann of Eagleville, Missouri; six grandchildren, Robin & Rick Bassett, Floyd & Lonnie South, David South, Sandy & Wendell Willis, Trudy Schoonover, and Sherri & Lyle Parkhurst; five great grandchildren, Ira Savely, Jennifer Hamby, Daniel South, Jason & KaSandra Perkins, and Justin Parkhurst; great, great grandson Ashton Perkins; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
