Obituary -

(Holyoke Enterprise Holyoke, Colorado February 17, 1994)

MARGARET BEMIS of Holyoke was born June 7, 1914, to Harvey and Edna Potter Northrup in Leon, Iowa. She passed away at Melissa Memorial Hospital in Holyoke February 10, 1994 at the age of 79.

Margaret grew up in Garden Grove, Iowa graduating from high school there. She attended Parsons College in Fairfield, Iowa where she received her teaching degree.

On October 21, 1935 she was united in marriage to Leslie V. Bemis. She taught school in Garden Grove for several years and was a substitute teacher in later years. She and Leslie farmed for 26 years before retiring and moving to Holyoke.

Margaret became a member of the Presbyterian Church of Garden Grove in her teens. After moving to Holyoke she transferred to the United Methodist Church. She served on many committees in the church and for many years served on the Memorial Fund Committee.

She was always involved and contributed to numerous clubs and organizations. She was a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority in college. She was a 60-year member of PEO as well as past presiding. Margaret was a 50-years plus member of Eastern Star and served as Worthy Matron. She was also a member of Delphian Club, AARP and the Birthday Club.

Margaret was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening, house plants and crafts. She also loved to cook.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband and two brothers-in-law.

Survivors include daughters Jo Anne Quiocho of San Antonio, Texas and Judy Beavers and husband Jerry of Holyoke; sisters Lucille Nesbitt-Rice of Fort Collins and Emeline Phillips of Spring Valley Minnesota; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins and treasured friends.

Services were held Sunday, February 13, 1994 at United Methodist Church of Holyoke with Jack Pedotto officiating. Burial was in Holyoke Memorial Park.
