Zemina Adeline Grimes, daughter of Enos Summers and Elizabeth Grimes, was born in Champaign county, Ill., August 17, 1866 and passed away March 3, 1945 at the age of 78 years, 6 months and 16 days. She became a member of the Weldon Methodist church where her membership remained until death.

On January 14, 1882 she was united in marriage to W. D. Westfall and to this union were born five children, George Edgar of Pomona, Calif., Robert Lee of Osceola, Iowa, Elma Wallace of Los Angeles, Calif., Wilma Burkhardt of Oak Park, Ill, and Claude Eugene of Des Moines, Iowa. To her children she was a true, devoted and loving mother, teaching not only by precept but by example and admonishing them that they might grow up and go out into the world useful men and women. She was accomplished as well as industrious, at all times a true helpmate to her husband. She spent most of her useful life in and around Weldon. She was preceded in death by her husband on March 4, 1938.

Surviving her beside her children are: one sister, Mrs. Mila Mitchell of Weldon; three brothers, John of Council Bluffs, Oscar of Osceola and Brissom of Davis City. She was always a willing helper in the Ladies’ Aid and the Mothers’ club. In later years her failing health compelled her to give up her active duties in the home and community.

She leaves to mourn their loss her children, 19 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. Eight of the grandchildren are in the service: David Westfall, in Belgium; Welton Westfall, in Italy; Mansel Westfall missing in Germany, Eugene Westfall in Hawaii; Paul Wallace in New Guinea; Robert Keith Wallace in Cuba; Edgar Eugene Wallace in the Pacific and Warren Wallace in Texas.”

(Minnie Grimes lived in Davis City before her marriage and after on a farm near Weldon.)
