“Weldon”

“The community was shocked Friday afternoon by the death of W. D. Westfall, who had been ill only a few days. Death was caused by a paralytic stroke. Mr. Westfall will be greatly missed in the community as it was a natural thing to see him going about his various duties among his relatives and friends. We extend our sincerest sympathy to those bereaved.

Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Burkhardt and children of Kansas City were called here by the illness and death of the lady’s father, Mr. W. D. Westfall.

Miss Dorothy Wallace, who has employment in Des Moines attended the funeral of her grandfather. Mr. W. D. Westfall.”

“William D. Westfall”

“William D. Westfall, youngest child of Sylvanus and Samantha Westfall was born July 11th, 1858, in Knox county, Ill. Died at his home in Weldon, Iowa, March 4th, 1938, at the age of 79 years, 7 months and 27 days.

He moved with his parents to Clarke county, Iowa in 1871, and with the exception of a few years he has lived in this community the balance of his life.

He was united in marriage to Miss Minnie Grimes, Jan. 14th, 1883. To his union five children born. They are: Edgar of Pomona, Calif., and Elma Wallace, Robert of Weldon, Wilma Burkhardt of Kansas City, MO., and Claude of Des Moines, Iowa.

At an early age he joined the Methodist Episcopal church and has remained an active member until death.

He leaves to mourn, his wife and children, nineteen grandchildren and one great grandchild, one sister, Mrs. Jane Mitchell of Yorktown, Iowa, other near relatives and many friends.

The funeral service was held in the Weldon Mehodist church at two o’clock, Sunday afternoon. March 6, 1938, conducted by Rev. Myrtle Wolfe-Cox, pastor. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Lamoree of Osceola in charge. Interment made in Hebron cemetery.”

(Willam David Westfall farmed near Weldon in Clarke County near the Decatur County line. His wife's family lived in Davis City.)
