“Well known Harness Shop Following his heart attack.”

“Oscar E. Grimes, Osceola businessman, died at a local hospital Saturday after an illness of a few days following a heart attack. He was 69 years old.

He came to Osceola 12 years ago and opened a harness shop on the south side of the square, which he has operated successfully since. It was one of the largest shops of its kind in this part of the state and his customers came from many parts of Southern Iowa and Northern Missouri.

Funeral services were held from the Lamoree Funeral home at 2:00 o’clock this afternoon with Rev. Jay N. Waterman of the Trinity Methodist church in charge. Interment was the Maple Hill cemetery. Interment was in Maple Hill cemetery.

Business houses of the city were closed during the hour of the service.

Pall bearers at the funeral were Jim Wade, Pearl Hoshaw, Russell Tolly, Jim Ball, R. C. Winters and Lloyd Thurston. Music was by Mrs. Jim Wade and Mrs. Forrest Cole, who were accompanied by Joyce Horton.

Oscar Eugene Grimes, son of Enos Summers and Anna Elizabeth Grimes was born in Bates county, Missouri, July 3, 1875, and passed away at a local hospital June 2, 1945 at the age of 69 years, 10 months and 29 days.

On February 22, 1899 he was united in marriage to Edna Estella Williams at Davis City, Iowa. Mr. and Mrs. Grimes spent most of their married live in Gilman, Missouri. They came to Osceola 12 years ago where Mr. Grimes engaged in the harness business, the trade which he learned from his father.

His father passed away in 1912 at the age of 71, and his mother in 1933 at the age of 94. Two brothers and two sisters also preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, one sister Mrs. Mila Mitchell of Weldon, Ia.; two brothers, John of Council Bluffs, and Grissom of Davis City, Iowa, also several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends who mourn his passing.”

(Oscar Eugene Grimes lived near Davis City, Decatur County 1912 when his father Enos Summers Grimes and was still living there in 1933 when his mother Anna Elizabeth Grimes passed.)
