“Obituary”

“Grissom G. Grimes, the youngest son of Enos and Elizabeth Grimes, was born in Weldon, Iowa, May 16, 1878. He was the youngest of eight children, six of whom have preceded him in death, namely: Mark, Oscar, a baby brother, Mrs. Minnie Westfall, and Mrs. Bernice Lawhead.

He is survived by his companion, a brother, John Grimes of Omaha, Nebr., and a sister, Mrs. Mila Mitchell, of Weldon, Iowa.

In 1887 the family moved to Davis City, Iowa, where with the exception of three years, he made his home thereafter.

He was versatile in employment and occupation, having served as water boy on the section, telegrapher, rural route carrier, and clothing merchant.

He was called into service in World War I, closed out his business and was ready to join the colors when the armistice was signed and the war ended.

He served his county as a member of the hospital board, as a member of the draft board during World War II and as county supervisor.

On September 19, 1905, he was united in marriage to Pearl Norman. With the exception of three years spent in the mercantile business in Troy, Kans., he had made his home in Davis City.

He was a active member of the Eastern Star and Masonic orders and endeavored to carry into effect the principles and teachings of these orders.

He enjoyed his home, his family and his friends and exemplified in his every-day life the virtues of a good neighbor and a good, citizen.

Funeral services were held from the Methodist church in Davis City, Iowa. Tuesday afternoon, April 8, 1947, in charge of the Stewart Funeral Home and conducted by Rev. W. A. Dessain, with burial in the new cemetery.”
