DEATH NOTICE:

SAVELY, Betty Maxine, 87, of Weldon, Iowa, died on Thursday, September 1, 2011 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 7, 2011, at Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa with Rev. Max Carmichael officiating. Burial was in the Cambria Cemetery, Cambria, Iowa.

A memorial fund has been established by the family.

BETTY MAXINE SAVELY ... Betty Maxine Savely, age 87, of Weldon, Iowa, was born July 29, 1924 on a farm in Millerton, Iowa to Dorman L. and Ocie Lee [Roof] Savely. She died at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa on Thursday, September 1, 2011.

Betty grew up in Garden Grove, Iowa on a farm. She attended school in Garden Grove before graduating from Weldon High School in 1941. Betty then worked at Pearcy's Grocery Store for 32 years. During that time she also worked as a substitute post master which later became her full time career, putting in 28 years before retirement.

Betty was a member of the American Legion Unit # 374 in Des Moines, Iowa, the Weldon Christian Church, Leon Calvary Baptist Church, and served on the Weldon City Council for ten years. While on the City Council, Betty could be seen at times, planting flowers, patching pot holes, and putting up signs around town. She was also instrumental in revitalizing the old train depot in Weldon. Betty also loved donating her time and cooking talents to the Weldon Country Club, where her pies and noodles were loved by all.

Preceding her in death were her parents and two sisters, Genevieve Reynard and Glendoris Lutz.

Betty will be deeply missed by her sister Dorothy Getman of Des Moines; brother Melvin Hutchings and friend Pam Freers of Muscatine, Iowa; nieces and nephews: Mike and Julie Reynard and son Curtis of Creston, Iowa, Dennis Lutz, Jr. of Iowa Falls, Iowa, Mark and Geri Hutchings and children, Tiffany and Tyler of Muscatine, Doug and Mary Lutz of Des Moines, and Rae Lynn and Dave Logel and sons Drew and Dalton of Muscatine; and other relatives and friends.
