GEORGE W. BLAKESLEY was born in Vermillion County, Indiana, July 20, 1833, and died at his home in Decatur County, Iowa, February 9, 1899, aged 65 years, 6 months and 18 days.

He moved with his parents to Appanoose County, Iowa, when about 14 years of age and from there to this county in the early 50s. He was married to Rebecca Jane Liewellen in Mercer County, Missouri, November 26, 1856.

To this union were born four children, all of whom survive him.

He united with the Baptist Church at New Salem and was baptized by Rev. He was a man of great energy, kind hearted and generous, always cheerful and hopeful under the severest trials of life. He will be missed in the home, in the church, in the community, and mourned by all who knew him.

He leaves a wife, four children ant twenty-one grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted by D.J. Hullinger, after which he was laid to rest in the New Salem Cemetery to await the trumpet's sound on the resurrection morning.
