CHASTAIN, Frank Wendell "Wink," 94, of Corydon, Iowa, died on Tuesday, July 19, 2011, at the Wayne County Hospital in Corydon, Iowa. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 22, 2011, at the Randolph Funeral Home in Corydon, Iowa, with Pastor Leroy Perkins officiating. Interment was in the Corydon Cemetery, in Corydon, Iowa.

FRANK WENDELL "WINK" CHASTAIN ... Frank Wendell "Wink" Chastain, 94, of Corydon, Iowa, passed away at Wayne County Hospital on July 19, 2011.

He was born on June 13, 1917 on the family farm in Decatur County to Frank E. and Maude Bruner Chastain. He graduated from Leon High School in 1934. He married Dorothy Flynn Chastain on October 11, 1941. To this union one daughter was born, Irma Kay.

Wink worked at the Triple A office in Leon, worked on the family farm with his father, and then managed the Decatur County Home for 3 years. In 1954 he was recruited to manage the Wayne County Home, which he and his wife Dorothy ran for the next 27 years. He and Dorothy retired in 1981 and moved to the city of Corydon. wink dedicated his life to public service. He was a member of the Wayne County Fair Board, Lions Club, Eastern Star, Fifty plus years to the Corydon Masonic Lodge 91, served on the Corydon City Council, and the Senior Housing Committee. Wink was also an avid sportsman playing lots of baseball in his younger years and golfing in his senior years. He was best known as "The Voice of the Wayne County Fair" for over 40 years. Wink and Dorothy were Corydon "Old Settlers of the Year" in 1985. In 2002 he was inducted into the Iowa 4H Hall of Fame at the Iowa State Fair for outstanding service in Wayne County.

He is survived in death by his wife Dorothy, daughter, daughter Irma (Lew) Jordan of Winterset, 3 grandchildren, Jill Tuttle of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, Lewis Stuart (Candace) Jordan of Urbandale, Grant Wendell (Jessica) Jordan of Des Moines, 4 great grandchildren, Jennifer, Cory, Austin and Zach, many nieces and nephews and other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Maude Chastain, brothers Paul and Harold, and sister Katherine.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Wayne County Fair.
