DEATH NOTICE:

ELLIS, Rodney Max, 52, of Davis City, Iowa, died on Friday, July 15, 2011, at the Decatur County Hospital in Leon, Iowa. Funeral services are at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 21, 2011 at the Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, with Pastor Lary Owens officiating. Burial will be in the Leon Cemetery. Visitation opens at noon on Thursday, with the family greeting friends from noon to 2:00 p.m.

A memorial fund has been established by the family.

RODNEY MAX ELLIS ... Rodney Max Ellis was born on April 24, 1959 in Mercer, Missouri to Max Rollo and Bonnie June [Nickell] Ellis. He grew up in Decatur County, Iowa living in and around the Davis City, Iowa area with his family. Rodney attended Central Decatur Schools in Leon, Iowa.

Rodney's work career had been as a laborer at the Decatur County Yard. After he was disabled with arthritis of the spine, he was unable to continue even though he liked the work and his friends there.

He lived mostly by himself looking after his own affairs with his dad, Max, checking in on him. Max always said Rodney was "Daddy's little Teddy Bear." Rodney loved to fish and enjoyed hunting pheasant, watching his favorite T.V. programs, and drinking Died Coke. Rodney taught himself to play the guitar. He loved all music, especially Johnny Cash.

Rodney died on Friday, July 15, 2011, at the Decatur County Hospital in Leon, Iowa at the age of 52.

Preceding him in death were his grandparents.

Surviving are his father Max Ellis of Davis City; mother Bonnie Waugh (Don) of Leon, Iowa; three sisters: Julie Ann Hentz (Randy Trites) of Lamoni, Iowa, Rebecca Sue Ellis of Davis City, and Scarlett Renee Williams (Michael) of Durant, Iowa; five nieces: Jenny Carlson (Brandon), Stephanie Robinson (Jeff), Amanda Sanderson, Ashli Williams, and Alyssa Williams; nephew Mikhail Hentz; great nieces and nephews: Cody, Shianne, Joe, Jordin, Lauren, Dominic, Greyson, and Cora; and other relatives and friends.
