DEATH NOTICE:

(The Leon Journal-Reporter Leon, Iowa July 13, 2011)

FRY, Johnnie, 64, of Leon, Iowa, died on Wednesday, June 29, 2011, at his home. Graveside services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at Van Wert Cemetery in Van Wert, Iowa, with Pastor Larry Owens officiating and Military Honors by Cowl-Scott American Legion Post # 80 of Leon, Iowa. Arrangements were through Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home of Leon.

A memorial fund has been established by the family.

JOHNNIE FRY ... Johnnie Lewis Fry, age 64, son of Michael H. and Beulah Lorrene [Collins] Fry, was born February 25, 1947 in Osceola, Iowa and died June 29, 2011 at his home in Leon, Iowa.

Johnnie lived his early life in Van Wert, Iowa and moved to Leon with his family in 1950. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as a medic during the Vietnam War. Johnnie was stationed in Vietnam for nearly two years.

Upon his honorable discharge, Johnnie continued to make his home in Leon. He worked at Hyde Manufacturing. Later, Johnnie worked at Westview Acres in housekeeping for over ten years.

Johnnie was known around Leon for doing lots of walking. He also enjoyed reading and fishing with his brother Gene. Johnnie was a big fan of Elvis.

Preceding Johnnie in death were his parents.

He is survived by his brothers and sister: Michael Eugene "Gene" Fry and Sharon of Leon, Judy Fifer and husband Paul of Kellerton, Iowa, and Francis Fry and wife Linda of Bloomington, Illinois; nieces and Nephews; great nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
