BESSIE MARGUERITE SHOWERS ... Bessie Marguerite Showers, daughter of Everett Monroe and Hazel Katheryn "Katie" [Rogers] Bagley, was born June 4, 1918 in Mercer County, Missouri, and died on Monday, November 18, 2002 at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa, at the age of 84 years.

Bessie was reared in Mercer County and graduated from Pleasanton, Iowa High School. She became a certified teacher and taught country school for several years. Most of her life was spent in the Leon, Osceola, Burlington, and Des Moines, Iowa areas. Bessie attended church all of her life. Her hobbies were sewing, quilting, knitting, reading, and playing the piano, she even taught her children to play. Bessie also loved to travel and be with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She encouraged her family to be whatever they wanted to be, and always had an open door to her home for anyone in need.

Bessie was married in 1941 to Lawrence Leo Showers, who preceded her in death on August 23, 1969. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Wilda Houk, and by a brother Everett "Junior" Bagley. She is survived by her children, Larry Showers (and daughter-in-law, Sharon) of Indianola, Iowa, Margi Prickett (and son-in-law Laverne) of West Des Moines, Iowa, Ramona Jolly (and son-in-law, Bill) of Casa, Arkansas, Raymond Showers of Burlington, Iowa, Rosanna Brammer (and son-in-law, Kendall) of Osceola, Iowa, Marcia Lesan (and son-in-law, Bret) of Blue Springs, Missouri, and Dana Showers of Des Moines, Iowa; 19 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Rosanna Gartin (and brother-in-law, Dick) of Des Moines, Iowa, Raymond Bagley (and sister-in-law, Ramona) of Mercer, Missouri, Ruth McDowell of Albany, Oregon, and Katheryn Burghoffer of Creston, Iowa; and other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, November 23, 1001 at the Slade O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa, with Pastor Bill Jolly officiating. Burial was in the Leon Cemetery, Leon, Iowa.
