DEATH NOTICE:

(The Leon Journal-Reporter Leon, Iowa June 29, 2011)

BOGGS, Orlan James, Jr., 80, of rural Weldon, Iowa, died on Tuesday, June 21, 2011, at his home on the family farm. Funeral services were held at the Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa, at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 24, 2011, with Pastor Dale O'Connell officiating. Burial was in the Garden Grove Cemetery, Garden Grove, Iowa.

Memorials may be given to the LeRoy Presbyterian Church in Orlan's memory.

ORLAN JAMES BOGGS, JR. ... Orlan James Boggs, Jr., age 80, the son of Orlan James and Elsie Merle [Sullivan] Boggs, was born at Osceola, Iowa on July 31, 1930 and died at his rural Weldon, Iowa home on the family farm on June 21, 2011.

Orlan attended Round Top Country School in Clarke County until the seventh grade, then attended LeRoy Consolidated School, graduating in 1949. He served his country during the Korean Conflict. He was in the United States Army from December 1951 until November 1953, spending 15 months in Japan.

He was united in marriage to Helen Ruth Sullivan on November 17, 1951in Osceola, Iowa. to this union one son, Joseph Jaye, and one daughter Janilee Kaye, were born. Orlan lived in Decatur and Clarke Counties engaged in farming all of his adult life. He found happiness being with his family riding his 4-wheeler, and when he was able, drinking coffee with his friends at the cafe.

Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers-in-law, John and Allen Sullivan; sister-in-law Donola Sullivan Redman; and two nephews, Don William "Donie Bill" Sullivan and Jerry Sullivan.

Survivors include his wife Helen Ruth Boggs of Weldon; son Joseph Boggs and wife Joan of Weldon; daughter Janilee Cobb and husband Danny of Chariton, Iowa; grandchildren, Robert Boggs and wife Jennifer of Roland, Iowa, Katie Turpin and husband Jeffrey of Osceola, Iowa; Erick Cobb and wife Patricia of Chariton, and Becki Cobb of Chariton; five great grandchildren, Skylar and Alyzah Boggs, Chase and Brandt Cobb, and Joseph Turpin; sister-in-law JoAnn Sullivan of Weldon; and other relatives and friends.
