DEATH NOTICE:

(The Leon Journal-Reporter Leon, Iowa June 22, 2011)

VINSON, Guy Edwin, 76, of rural Leon, Iowa, died on Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at his home. Funeral Services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 17, 2011 at Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon with Rev. Lyle Ball officiating. Burial was at High Point Cemetery, east of Leon, with Military Honors by Cowl-Scott American Legion Post # 80 of Leon.

Memorials may be given to HCI Care Services-Mount Ayr Office (formerly known as Hospice of Central Iowa.)

GUY EDWIN VINSON ... Guy Edwin Vinson, age 76, son of Doran Arthur and Wilma M. [Sellers] Vinson, was born March 20, 1935 in Iowa City, Iowa. He died at his home in rural Leon, Iowa on June 14, 2011.

After his mother's death, guy lived with his maternal grandparents. He attended Chariton Country School and graduated from high school at Cambria Consolidated School. Guy enlisted in the U.S. Marines in December 1953 and served in Korea during the Korean War.

On February 16, 1958 he married Judy Mae Grace Harper-Orner. Three children were born to them: Debra Ann, Donna Grace, and Dennis Edwin.

Guy worked at an early age. While growing up, he carried papers, worked at the sale barn, and worked as a farm hand. He later worked at Sutherlands, farmed, did dozer work, worked at Leon Low Rent Housing, and the WRD Landfill.

He liked fishing, tending to cattle, tinkering in his garage, running his Caterpillar, riding his Gator, and enjoying his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Guy also enjoyed swinging on his back porch swing and his dogs.

Preceding him in death were his parents; sister Wilma; brothers Richard and Carl Vinson; sister-in-law Gloria; brothers-in-law Lawrence McDonnell and Jim Drummond; step-mom Velma; and his mothers-in-law and fathers-in-law.

Surviving are wife Judy Vinson of Leon; daughters Debra (Ron) Hinds of Princeton, Missouri and Donna Hill of Leon; son Dennis Vinson (Linda) of Leon; grandchildren: Jaron Hinds of California, Janessa (Andy) Redman of Republic, Missouri, Jentry (Matthew) Benedict of Republic, Missouri, Dustin (Samantha) Hill of Leon, Dakota (Amber) Hill of Leon, Dylan Hill and Adison Broich of Leon, Chris McClaran and May Norman of Decatur, Iowa, Cole Vinson and Morgan Bethards of Decatur, and Caleb Vinson and Nichole Scheffers of Leon; 10 great grandchildren and a son-to-be great granddaughter; one great, great grandchild; brothers Jim (Sharon) Vinson of Kansas City and Charles (Mary) Sandeen of Carroll, Iowa; sister Doris (Clint) Wolf of Des Moines, Iowa; sisters-in-law Mary Lou Drummond of Cobb Island, Maryland, Edna (Bobby) Chestnut of Stephens City, Virginia, and Joan Harper of LaPlata, Maryland; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
