DEATH NOTICE:

(The Leon Journal-Reporter Leon, Iowa June 15, 2011)

OLIVER, L.C., 74, of Leon, Iowa, died on Thursday, June 9, 2011, at his home. Funeral Services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 13, 2011, at Slade O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon with Rev. Terry D. Roberts and Rev. Max Carmichael officiating. Burial followed in the Leon Cemetery, Leon, Iowa.

Memorial Fund has been established by the family.

Survivors include his wife Patty Oliver of Leon, daughters Kathy Smith and Kristi Minnick both of Leon and son David Oliver of Indianola, Iowa.

L.C. Oliver ... L. C. Oliver, age 74 of Leon, Iowa, the son of Earl "Pete" and Zelma Maxine "Bobby" [Owens] Oliver, was born January 7,1 937 near Woodland, Iowa in Wayne County. He died at his home in Leon on Thursday, June 9, 2011.

L.C. graduated from Lineville High School in May of 1955. He then served in the United States Army from June 23, 1955 until June 18, 1958. On November 1, 1959, he married Patty Lou Shockey in Lineville, Iowa. The couple was blessed with three children, David, Kathy, and Kristi. L.C. started barber school in Des Moines, Iowa in June 1960. After his completion of training, they lived in Centerville, Iowa for a year, then Webster City, Iowa for 12 years, one year in Ardmore, Oklahoma, then moved to Leon, Iowa in April 1973. L.C. barbered and did house painting for several years before getting a job at Iowa Southern Utilities in 1978. He retired from Iowa Southern in October 1996, but continued to do barbering work until 2008.

In his free time, L.C. enjoyed golfing, fishing, playing cards, woodworking, refinishing furniture, and visiting with people in his shop or at the country club. He loved sports and attended many of his grandchildren's games. There was never a bad word spoken about L.C., a man of few words himself. He enjoyed visiting his mom daily until her death. He also started going to Trinity Christian Church five years ago and was baptized in December of 2008 with his grandson, Keaton Minnick. He enjoyed helping serving communion. He was a member of Trinity Christian Church, Cowl-Scott American Legion Post #80, and the Leon Golf and Country Club.

Preceding him in death were his parents and his in laws, Dean and Noreen Shockey. Survivors include his wife Patty of Leon; children, David and Tressa Oliver of Indianola, Iowa, Kathy and David Smith of Leon, and Kristi and Tim Minnick of Leon; grandchildren, Justin, Madison, Whitney, Cody, Dakota, Tyson, Tiara, Taylor, Annalise, Keaton, and Kole; two great grandchildren, Tyree and Hayden; brothers-in-law, Dick and Jane Ellen Shockey of Danville, Illinois and Rick and Dawn Shockey of Ft. Meyers, Florida; nieces and nephews, Rhett & Mara Shockey and their daughter Rowan, Ashley and Josh Oman, and Kaylee Shockey; and other relatives and friends.
