DEATH NOTICE:

(The Leon Journal-Reporter Leon, Iowa May 18, 2011)

REDMAN, ELIZABETH ETHEL, 87, of Leon, Iowa died on Monday, May 9, 2011, at the Decatur County Hospital, in Leon. Funeral Services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 13, 2011, at The Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa, with Rev. Terry D. Roberts and Pastor Dale Short officiating. Burial was in the Leon Cemetery, Leon, Iowa.

Memorials may be given to the Decatur County Historical Society in Liz's memory.

ELIZABETH ETHEL REDMAN, age 87 of Leon, Iowa, the daughter of Frederick and Eliza Jane [Bunch] McMorris, was born June 18, 1923 in Decatur County, Iowa. She died at the Decatur County Hospital, in Leon on Monday, May 9, 2011.

Elizabeth graduated from Leon High School in 1940 at age 16. She then took Normal Training to be able to teach country school, which she did for the next three years. Then she worked at Snowden Sewing Factory in Osceola, Iowa for another three years.

On February 14, 1946 she married Maurice Redman at Shenandoah, Iowa. They were blessed with two sons, Maurice Chester "Chet" and Kenneth. The family lived in Decatur and Clarke Counties where Maurice farmed. In 1954 they moved to Leon. Liz worked at the public Library and cleaned homes. In1960 she started at the Decatur county Hospital, retiring after 29 years in 1989.

In her free time, she enjoyed gardening, growing strawberries, planting flowers, sewing and quilting. She visited her son Kenny and his family often in all parts of the world while he was in the military. She also enjoyed many trips with the Farm Bureau and the Gold Club at the bank. She did genealogy research for people and wrote her own book of childhood memories, entitled "Memories." She was a member of the Leon, Brethren Church where she taught Sunday School and Bible School to pre-schoolers and kindergartners.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband Maurice in October 1976; brothers, Raymond, Paul and Donald McMorris; sister Georgia McMorris; sisters-in-law, Viola McMorris and June McMorris; and brothers-in-law, John Sprenger and Carl Rittenback.

Survivors include her sons, Chet Redman and friend Carol Housh of Leon and Kenny Redman and wife Donna of Frankford, Delaware; grandchildren, Ryan Redman and Amy Peca and husband Joe; great grandchildren, Joseph and Isaac Peca; brothers, John McMorris of Independence, Iowa, Richard McMorris and wife Tippie of Overland Park, Kansas; sister Dorothy Rittenback of Jamestown, North Dakota; sisters-in-law, Mary McMorris of Overland Park, Kansas, Helen McMorris of Kellerton, Iowa, and Helen Gjovig of Coralville, Iowa; brother-in-law, Don and Donna Redman of Van Wert, Iowa; sister-in-law Annabel Sheets of Corydon, Iowa; nieces and nephews; close friends, Serena [McKibben] Linn of Des Moines, Iowa, Jean Owens of Indianola, Iowa, Loretta Kelly, and Hank and Roberta Brown, all of Leon; and other relatives and friends.
