KENDALL, IRENE, 85, of rural Lamoni, Iowa, died on Wednesday, April 6, 2011, at the Mount Ayr Care Center in Mount Ayr, Iowa. Funeral Services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 11, 2011, at the Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa, with Rev. Terry D. Roberts officiating.

IRENE "SHORTY" KENDALL ... Edith Irene Kendall, age 85 of rural Lamoni, Iowa, also known as Shorty to her family and friends, was the adopted daughter of Elmer and Mae [Heller] Deemer. She was born June 12, 1925 at Newton, Iowa. She died at the Mount Ayr Care Center in Mount Ayr, Iowa on Wednesday, April 6, 2011.

Irene graduated form Dallas Center High School in 1942. She then took business classes at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. During the ten years she worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Des Moines, she met her husband William Lyle Kendall. They were married November 10, 1952. They were blessed with one son, Kevin James known as Casey. Irene and Bill owned and operated Kourt Klean Laundry on the east side of Des Moines for 25 years. They retired in 1984, and moved to Decatur County. They enjoyed gardening and visiting with friends at the local coffee shops. Irene loved being outside and still went deer and squirrel hunting until ten years ago.

Preceding her in death were her parents and husband Bill on April 12, 2007. Survivors include her son Casey Kendall of Carlisle, Iowa and friend Mary Johnson of Norwalk, Iowa, sister Johanna Deemy of Norfolk, Virginia; family friends, Ron and Linda Binning of Grand River, Iowa and Penny Hewlett of Iowa City, Iowa; and other relatives and friends.
