Obituary -

(The Leon Journal-Reporter Leon, Iowa September 1, 2010)

EDNA VIRGINIA CLARK ... Edna Virginia Clark, age 95, the daughter of John Benson and Ethel Vivian [Harrell] Oliver, was born January 12, 1915 at LeRoy, Iowa in Decatur County. She died at Westview Acres in Leon, Iowa on Monday, August 23, 2010.

Edna attended West Concord Country School. Her mother died when she was five years old, so Edna learned how to do housework and cook at a young age. She started managing the household when she was 14. On March 11, 1933 she married Lester Raymond Clark. The couple was blessed with seven children, Beverly, Leonard, Dorothy, Virginia, stillborn Margaret, Shirley, and Don. The family lived in the Garden Grove and LeRoy area most of their lives, except the time spent in Clinton, Iowa when Lester was in the Army working at a hospital there.

Every Sunday Edna made homemade noodles for dinner. Many days she had homemade bread ready for the kids when they came home from school. She played cards with the older children when they were young. After the children were older, Edna worked at the LeRoy School in the cafeteria and for Green Thumb in the school library. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Ladies Aide in LeRoy, and a Garden Club. She was baptized into the Humeston Christian United Methodist church at age 92.

Preceding her in death were her parents; stepmother Garland Ketter Oliver; husband Lester in 1989; brother Dwight Oliver; sister Opal Cannon; daughters, infant Margaret and Dorothy Patterson; son Leonard Clark; and sons-in-law, George Jackson and Pat Patterson.

Survivors include her children, Bev Jackson of Weldon, Iowa; Virginia Watson and Ron of Derby, Iowa; Shirley Drake of LeRoy, Iowa; and Don Clark and Debbie of Johnston, Iowa; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great, great grandchildren; brother John Thomas Oliver and wife Gerry of Olathe, Kansas; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
