Leon, Ia. ... WILDA MARIE HOUK of Pleasanton Iowa, 82, died Tuesday September 19, 1999 at Westview Acres.

Funeral services were held Friday September 17th at Slade-O-Donell funeral Home in Leon, with Rev. Doug Hamilton officiating. Burial was in the Freedom Cemetery Northwest of Princeton.

A memorial fund has been established by the family.

Mrs. Houk, daughter of Everett and Hazel Bagley, was born November 10, 1916 in Mercer County. She attended the Cavanaugh Country School in Mercer County. She married Charley Houk on October 24, 1934 in Mercer County. The couple farmed in the Pleasanton area before moving to Wheatland, Wyoming where they farmed from 1947-1952. They returned to Pleasanton. In 1960 they opened the Houk garage in Pleasanton, which they owned and operated until Mr. Houk's death in 1964.

Mrs. Houk worked in the kitchen at Westview Acres and was also a house keeper at the Chief Motel in Lamoni, Iowa.

She was a very caring and nurturing mother. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and leader for the Hamilton Boosters 4-H Club. A member of the Davis City, Iowa Church of Christ and was a member and past president of the Decatur County VFW Auxiliary 3778.

Mrs. Houk is survived by eight children, Virgil Houk and wife Geneva of Leon, Iowa, Retha Verhage and special friend Jim Fisher of Shawnee, Kansas, Charlene Adair and husband, Mike of Osceola, Iowa, Henry Houk of Buckner, Missouri, Kathy Hamilton-Hammer and husband Floyd of Union Iowa, Marilyn Leonard and husband Jim of Des Moines, Iowa, Vivian Elsberry and husband, Donny of Pleasanton, and Jim Houk and wife Sherry of Mercer; a son-in-law, Dave Smiley and wife Peggy of Shawnee Kansas; a brother, Raymond Bagley and wife Ramona of Mercer; four sisters, Bessie Showers of Burlington, Iowa Ruth McDonald of Albany, Oregon, Rosanna Gartin and husband Dick of Des Moines, Iowa, and Catherine Burghoffer of Reston, Iowa; 19 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; a son Jesse Houk; granddaughter Amanda Burton; a daughter Eleanor Smiley; a son-in-law Jack Verhage; a special friend, Harold Bryant; and a brother Everett Bagley Jr.
