Obituary -

(The Leon Journal-Reporter Leon, Iowa August 11, 2010)

PAUL ABRAHAM HOUDESHELDT, age 69, the son of martin Luther and Marjorie Beatrice [Marshall] Houdesheldt, was born July 22, 1941 at Garden Grove, Iowa. He went home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 2, 2010 while residing at the Afton Care Center in Afton, Iowa.

Paul lived in Garden Grove with his family before moving into the Bethphage / Mosaic Home in Osceola, Iowa in 1989. While living at the home he was employed at the workshop and High Expections (Expectations, sic.) Store. He enjoyed his duties of sweeping the walk, making rugs, and especially being a gentleman while waiting on the customers, oftentimes taking their hands while assisting them. In his spare time he loved talking to people, listening to music, following the Iowa Hawkeyes, and collecting hats.

Even after entering the home he remained a faithful son to his mother, visiting her often in the nursing home. He looked forward to the visits from his brother and expanded his love of family to all of the Mosaic residents and staff. Paul never knew a stranger and anyone that had the pleasure of meeting him became his friend.

In January 2010, Paul's health problems forced him to move into the Afton Care Center. Even in declining health Paul continued to spread his love of people throughout the center.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Luther and Marjorie, and his brother Gerald. Survivors are his Mosaic family in Osceola, several cousins including Vera Klemme of Osceola, and numerous friends in the community including his close friends, Carole and Doug Petersen of Osceola.
