STOUT, Gordon Edward, 79, of Leon, Iowa, died June 18, 2010 at Westview Acres in Leon, Iowa. Funeral Services were held Monday, June 21, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. at Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa, with Rev. Max Carmichael officiating. Burial was in the Leon Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established by the family.

GORDON EDWARD STOUT ... Gordon Edward Stout, age 79 of Leon, Iowa, son of Edward Byram and Goldie Gladys [Campbell] Stout, was born July 11, 1930 in rural Decatur County, Iowa and died June 18, 2010 at Westview Acres in Leon.

Gordon grew up in Decatur. In 1949 he married Betty Houk, and to this union two children were born, Edward and Ronda. He later married Earlene Davidson, and to this union five children were born: Christine, Kadena, Gordon Jr., Ronald, and Carol.

In 1977 Gordon married Clara Gibson Jones. Through this union he gained three children: Tim, Joyce, and Susan.

Gordon worked all his adult life at E.I. Sargeant's Quarry in Decatur. He was a driller at the rock quarry and retired from there. Gordon and his family lived in Decatur, and he later moved to Leon. Gordon served as Mayor of Decatur during the ribbon-cutting for the opening of Interstate 25 from Decatur to Osceola.

Gordon had an adventurous spirit. He loved to travel and enjoyed the Bear Tooth Pass trip from Montana to Yellowstone. He liked fishing with "the guys" and riding motorcycles. During the years of the Decatur Speedway, Gordon drove a stock car with his logo "Hit 'em a Lick." He enjoyed family dinners and get-togethers.

Preceding Gordon in death were his parents; brother Mike VanWinkle; wife Clara Stout; and son Gordon Edward Stout, Jr.

Surviving are 9 children: Edward Stout of Oskaloosa, Iowa, Ronda Brothers and husband Raymond of Oskaloosa, Christine Brown of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Kadena Stout of Leon, Ron Stout of Leon, Carol Swift and husband Harold "Howie" of Council Bluffs, Tim Jones of Oskaloosa, Joyce Johnson and husband Stu of Thurman, Iowa, and Susan Burkett and husband Chan of Grand Junction, Iowa; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; sister Marjorie McBee of Des Moines, Iowa; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
