DEATH NOTICE:

SPIDLE, Eldon, Jr., 72, of Apache Junction, Arizona, died on June 3, 2010 in Apache Junction, Arizona. Funeral services were held at the Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at 11 a.m. with Rev. John Rector officiating. Burial was in the Leon Cemetery, Leon, Iowa. A memorial fund has been established by the family.

ELDON SPIDLE, JR. ... Eldon Spidle, Jr., age 72, was born August 20, 1937 in Leon, Iowa to Eldon L. and Marie [Kimmel] Spidle. He departed this life on June 3, 2010 in Apache Junction, Arizona.

After graduating from Leon High School, he joined the Army and was in the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He married Shirley Dove on December 9, 1968.

Eldon ran a car dealership in Leon and Corydon, Iowa and Carthage, Missouri for several years. He served as mayor of Leon for a time. He was president of the Full Gospel Businessmen Association in Joplin, Missouri and taught Sunday School. He enjoyed telling stories of his Golden Glove Boxing days and traveling with Shirley.

Preceding him in death were his parents; son Robert; and four brothers, Marion, Bob, Leland, and Dick. Survivors include his wife Shirley Spidle of Apache Junction; sister Louise Langloss and husband Danny of Humeston, Iowa; sisters-in-law Marilyn Spidle of Delmar, Iowa, Bonnie Waddell of near Corydon, Iowa, and Diana Rector and husband John of Vilonia, Arkansas; brother-in-law Don Dove of Vinita, Oklahoma; several nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
