HILL, Elmer Ralph, 82, of Leon, Iowa, died Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at Westview Acres in Leon. Funeral services were held at the Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon June 27 with Rev. Terry D. Roberts officiating. Burial was in the Leon Cemetery.

Memorial gifts may be given to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of Central Iowa in Mt. Ayr.

ELMER RALPH HILL ... Elmer Ralph Hill, age 82, of Leon, Iowa, was born March 30, 1926 in Decatur County, Iowa to Elmer Warren and Helen Belle [Hartley] Hill and died Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at Westview Acres in Leon.

Ralph lived his entire life in Decatur County, Iowa with the exception of four years spent farming in Wright County, Iowa. In addition to farming, Ralph worked as a truck driver and an oil jobber. He served in the United States Army in Korea from March 1945 until December 1946.

On May 21, 1945, he was united in marriage to Marybelle Hembry in Atchison, Kansas. Four children blessed this union, Garry Ralph, Dennis Randall, Marilyn Rene, and Alan Ray.

Preceding him in death were his wife of 53 years, Marybelle in 1998; his parents; and three brothers, Max, Dean, and Maurice Hill.

Survivors include his children: Garry and Diane Hill of Leon; Dennis Hill of Burlington, Iowa; Marilyn and Mike Schenck of Fairfield, Iowa; and Alan and Tina Hill of Leon; grandchildren: Angela Hill, Jim & Laura Hill, all of Leon. Crystal Hill and Tiffany Hill, both of Burlington; Matt Schenck of Fairfield; Aaron & Amber Hill of Huxley, Iowa, Michael & Leah Hill of Corydon, Iowa, and Ryan & Danielle Hill of Indianola, Iowa; 11 great grandchildren; sisters: Sara Van Nostrand & husband Jim of Delran, New Jersey and Donna Roskens & husband Russ of Las Vegas, Nevada; sisters-in-law: Ruth Hill of Ellinwood, Kansas, Elaine Hill, and Darlene Hill, both of Leon; Marybelle's brothers and sisters: Myron & Mary Hembry of Osceola, Iowa, Don & Glendean Hembry, Joanne & Earl Hanthorn, all of Leon, and Carol Jean & Leon Engelbrecht of Bonderant, Iowa; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
