PAUL LeROY CURTIS, 87, of 1372 County Line Road died of an aortic aneurysm Thursday in Carlisle. Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Slade-O'Donell Funeral Home in Leon, with burial at Leon Cemetery.

Mr. Curtis was born in Valley Junction and had lived in the Des Moines area most of his life. He was a retired engineer with the Rock Island Railroad.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; a son, Jack of Des Moines; a daughter, Marilyn Tracy of Indianola; two brothers, Harley of Summersville, Mo., and Jack of Las Vegas, Nev; a sister Mae Horne of Knoxville; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Paul LeRoy Curtis, son of Minor Leroy and Rena [Harris] Curtis, was born at Valley Junction, Iowa on April 17, 1906 and died at Carlisle, Iowa on July 29, 1993 at the age of 87 years, 3 months and 12 days.

Paul lived most of his life in and around the Des Moines, Iowa area. He attended rural school near Saline, Missouri through the eighth grade.

He and Mary M. Brannen were married August 18, 1929 at Leon, Iowa. To this union were born two children, a son and a daughter.

Paul was a Rock Island Locomotive Engineer and spent 28 years at this chosen occupation, retiring in 1970.

Preceding him in death were his parents; brother Ray Kellogg; and great grandson Taylor Jay Curtis.

Paul leaves to mourn: his wife Mary Curtis of Des Moines, Iowa; son Jack Jay Curtis of Des Moines, Iowa; daughter Marilyn Joy Tracy and Husband Ed of Indianola, Iowa; four dearly beloved grandchildren: Dennis Alexander of Des Moines; Shari Bartholomew of Van Buren, Arkansas; Stephen Curtis of Des Moines; and Bradley Curtis of Carlisle; 10 great grandchildren; sister Mae Horne of Knoxville, Iowa; two brothers: Harley Curtis of Summerville, Missouri; and Jack Curtis of Las Vegas, Nevada; and other relatives and many friends.
