Viola M. Hayes, daughter of Donald and Millie [Showers] Petty was born April 7, 1931 in Decatur, Iowa, and died Friday Friday, June 25, 2004 at her home in Bettendorf, Iowa, at the age of 73 years.

Viola was employed at the former Brix Cleaners in Davenport, Iowa, Arlens in Bettendorf, and she also sold Beeline Clothes out of her home for a number of years. She was a devout and active member of the First Baptist Church in Bettendorf, where she taught Sunday School for 40 years. She also baby sat for many years. She loved children and helped rear many children including her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her other interests included cooking, quilting, embroidery, flowers and gardening.

Viola was married on July 10, 1949 in Leon, Iowa, to Lyle L. Hayes. Those left to mourn her memory include her husband Lyle; her daughter, Pauletta Geiger (and son-in-law, Willis), Satellite Beach, Florida; her grandchildren, Brook Danielson, Mandy Hayes, Jessica Kadlec, Brian Dahms-Geiger and Deanna Geiger; her great-grandchildren, Bobby, Tucker and Mackenna Danielson; her brothers and sister-in-law, Harold and Winnie Petty, Lineville, and Wilbur and Glada Petty, Clio, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Lyle Eugene Hayes on November 18, 1990, and by her brother Kenneth Petty.

Funeral services were held Monday, June 28, 2004 at the First Baptist Church in Bettendorf, Iowa, under the direction of McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery, Lineville, Iowa.
