DEATH NOTICE:

(The Leon Journal-Reporter Leon, Iowa April 7, 2010)

CATTELL, Howard Leslie, 85, of Corydon, Iowa, died Monday, March 29, 2010 at the Corydon Nursing and Rehab Center. Funeral services were held at the Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa April 3 with Pastor Paul Miller officiating. Burial was in the Leon Cemetery, Leon, Iowa.

Memorials may be given to the circle of Life Hospice in Charton, Iowa.

HOWARD LESLIE CATTELL ... Howard Leslie Cattell, age 85 of rural Corydon, Iowa, passed away at the Corydon Nursing and Rehab Center on Monday, March 29, 2010. The son of Clarence Alfred and Nellie Carolyn [Losey] Cattell was born January 18, 1925 at Mildred, Montana.

In 1932 Howard and his family traveled form Montana by horse and wagon to settle in Decatur County, Iowa, where Nine Eagles Lake is now. He went to school in Pleasanton, Iowa, then started working on farms in the area for hire.

On March 5, 1945 he and Darlene Dora Morine eloped to Lawrence, Kansas. They shared 65 years of marriage and raised their six children. Howard worked at General Mills in Avon Lake and lived in rural Carlisle, Iowa from 1956 until 1969. From there the family moved to the Chariton and Lucas, Iowa area and finally to rural Corydon. Howard enjoyed farming and being outdoors taking care of his livestock. He always said his best crop was his six children.

Preceding him in death were his parents, daughter Patty Cattell, grandson Chad Moon, and brothers Alfred and Charles Cattell.

Survivors include his wife Darlene Cattell of Corydon; children, Denny & Jan Cattell of Pleasant Hill, Iowa, Dixie & Eng Ellis of Olympia, Washington, Marilyn & Gordon Moon of Ankeny, Iowa, Nick & Deb Cattell of Chariton, Iowa, and Mark & Valerie Cattell of St. Helens, Oregon; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; sister Shirley Webster of Knoxville, Tennessee; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
