DEATH NOTICE:

MOON, Frances Lucille, 88, of Lamoni, Iowa, died Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at her rural Lamoni Home. Memorial services were held March 23 at the Lamoni Community of Christ Church. Arrangements were through Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home of Leon and Lamoni, Iowa.

FRANCES LUCILLE MOON ... Frances Lucille Moon, age 88, the daughter of George and Lucille [Wolfe] Nowack, was born April 23, 1921 at Springfield, Illinois. She passed away peacefully at her rural Lamoni, Iowa home on Tuesday March 16, 2010.

Frances grew up in Ava, Missouri with her younger sister, Florence. After high school, Frances attended Graceland College in Lamoni before nurses training in Independence, Missouri. On December 14, 1942 Frances and Dale Fredrick Moon were united in marriage. They were blessed with three children, Charles, Matthew, who died in infancy, and Elizabeth. Frances served as a registered nurse in the United States Army with the rank of Lieutenant at the time of her honorable discharge. Over the years she mainly worked in hospitals. She loved her job as an emergency room nurse supervisor and her co-workers. She retired in 1977 while living in Monte Clair, California. In 1978 she and Dale moved to Lamoni.

Frances was a member of the Community of Christ Church. She enjoyed sewing, cross-stitching, reading, playing cards, walking, and bird watching. She also liked horses and zebras.

Preceding her in death were her parents and infant son Matthew.

Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Dale Moon; son Chuck Moon of Kodiak, Alaska; daughter Betsy Moon of Lamoni; five grandsons; two great grandchildren; sister Florence Welch and nephews David and Eric Welch, all of Salem, Oregon; and other relatives and friends. The family all sends a heartfelt thank-you to the Central Iowa Hospice team for their care and compassion while treating Frances.
