MAYMIE VIOLA FLANAGAN ... Maymie Viola [Boyd] Flanagan was the seventh child of 10 children born to Sanford and Susan [Elliott] Boyd. She was born April 4, 1897 in Mercer County and passed away October 25, 1993 at Westview Acres in Leon, Iowa, at the age of 96 years.

Maymie grew up north of Cainsville at what was called Burr's Station. She attended grade school near there.

On Jan. 14, 1914 she was untied in marriage to John Pious Flanagan and to this union five children were born. All their married life was spent on a farm near Davis City, Iowa, Saline and Pleasanton, Iowa. In 1942 they bought a farm south of Leon and lived there until Johnny passed away Aug. 2, 1965.

Maymie sold the farm and bought a home in Leon, living there until going into Westview Acres nursing home on March 10, 1983.

She loved to walk and continued to walk until breaking her hip in 1986. Since then she had been confined to a wheelchair and for the past year confined most of the time in bed.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; four brothers and five sisters; two infant daughters, Hildred Ineta and Venna Viola; son, Harold Sanford Flanagan; grandson, Michael Harold Flanagan; and daughter-in-law, Hazel Flanagan.

She is survived by one son, Harley Flanagan (and wife, Sylvia) of Cainsville; one daughter, Ruth Dale (and husband Orville) of Davis City, Iowa; six grandchildren and their companions; 18 great-grandchildren; 12 great, great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Oct. 28 at the St. Brendans Catholic Church in Leon, Iowa, with Father Tom Coenen officiating. A Wake Service was held on Oct. 27 at the Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon. Burial was in the Leon Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Westview Acres Therapy Room.
