Obituary -

Minnie Sophia Flanagan, daughter of John William and Emily C. [Weddle] Kindred, was born on March 21, 1893 at Wilmore, Kansas in Comanche County, and died at the Wabash Healthcare Center in Wabash, Indiana on August 19, 1998 at the age of 105 years.

Minnie and her family came from Kansas to Missouri in a covered wagon. They lived on a farm south of Pleasanton, Iowa.

On February 18,1928 Minnie married Ben Flanagan. He died on February 18, 1959.

She raised a big garden and chickens. She loved to visit with friends and neighbors. Minnie had quite a sense of humor and never complained about anything. She loved to play bingo, dominoes, bowl and do activities.

Minnie survived a tornado. And everyone remembers when she accidently locked her hands in her son's military handcuffs.

Minnie made her home in Wabash, Indiana since 1963. She was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church in Wabash.

Preceding her in death were her parents; two step sons Delbert and Buford Flanagan; four brothers Jim, Roger, Sherm, and Andy Kindred; and six sisters Mary, Minnie's twin Winnie, Sylvia, Edith, Allie, and Elizabeth.

Survivors include her son Mervel Flanagan and wife Norma of Wabash, Indiana; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; step daughters-in-law Gladys Flanagan of Cainsville, Missouri and Lois Flanagan of Salem, Oregon; and other relatives and friends.

Graveside funeral services were held at the Hamilton Cemetery in Decatur County, Iowa at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 25, 1998 with Rev. Paddy Druhl officiating. Burial was in the Hamilton Cemetery. Local arrangements were made through the Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home of Leon and Lamoni, Iowa.
