Leon, Iowa
Thursday, February 5, 1914

Although Mrs. BIDDISON had been an invalid for several years the news of her
death came as a distinct shock to her many friends and relatives. Not for
many months had Mrs. BIDDISON felt so well as on the Sunday just preceding
the Tuesday morning of her death; and as late as Saturday was able to walk
about town with the aid of crutches. But "In the Midst of Life we are in
Death", and she was called to rest from her pain. But for Sister BIDDISON
death had been robbed of its sting" and was only an indication to us that
her life had begun in the next world. Relatives and friends have often
remarked that they never saw one who was habitually more cheerful and more
patient in the midst of continued and intense suffering. Only a confident
trust in the Heavenly Father and a constant communion with Him could make
such cheer and patience possible. Mrs. BIDDISON was a member of the Leon
Methodist Church and whenever possible was in attendance upon its services.
Religion with her was a vital matter and no amount of suffering could cause
her faith in God's goodness to fail.

Funeral services were held at the residence in north Leon last Thursday
afternoon at 1:30 o'clock. A quartette from the Methodist Church choir sang
three helpful hymns. The service was conducted by Rev. G.J. Fansher, Pastor
of the local M.e. Church. The following life sketch was read at the
services:

MERCY VIOLA PLATT, daughter of NEPOLIAN and HARRIET DANFORTH PLATT, was born
July 11, 1869, in Monroe County, Indiana. She died at one o'clock Tuesday
morning, January 27, 1914. She has four sisters and one brother now living;
three of the sisters being here, only the younger sister and the brother
being absent. The sister's absence is owing to the death of her husband's
father, which occurred Monday. The brother's absence from his home in
Indianapolis prevented his receiving word of his sister's death. Of her
immediate family she is survived by her husband and three sons, CHARLES
ALBERT, EARL DOUGLAS, and ENSIGN PLATT BIDDISON. All were at home at the
time of her death.

Other relatives in attendance were Mr. and Mrs. ALBERT BIDDISON and their
family, of Cainsville, Mo., and Miss VADA OLINGER, a niece of Mrs. BIDDISON,
who resided in Leon the past three years.
