Decatur County Journal
Leon, Iowa
Thursday, December 4, 1913

ROLLIN I. BENEFIEL, son of Mr. and Mrs. S.E. BENEFIEL, passed away Tuesday
evening at the home of his parents in north Leon after an illness of several
weeks. The announcement of his death came as a great shock to his many
friends. He was one of Leon's most popular and most capable young men.
Everyone was ROLLIN's friend and the people of the city and surrounding
country are grief stricken because of his untimely death. ROLLIN was one of
the state's brightest young newspaper men. He served some time as sports
editor of the Ft. Dodge Daily Chronicle and during the past summer served in
a like capacity on the Daily Journal at Quincy, Illinois. He was compelled
to stop work for a week or so late in the summer on account of his health,
but later took up his duties again after being at his home in this city for
a short time resting up. At the close of the baseball season he returned to
Leon, his health being such that he could work no longer. He grew steadily
worse in spite of all that medical skill could do. His condition became
alarming a few weeks ago and continued critical until his death occurred
Tuesday evening of this week.

The funeral services will be held from the house this afternoon at 2 o'clock
and interment will follow in the Leon Cemetery. An obituary sketch will
appear in the next issue of the Journal.
