DEATH NOTICE:

(The Leon Journal-Reporter Leon, Iowa February 3, 2010)

DAVIS, Margaret Ellen, 86, of Leon, Iowa, died Sunday, January 24, 2010 at Westview Acres in Leon. Memorial services will be held at the Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon at a later date with burial in the Leon Cemetery.

MARGARET ELLEN DAVIS ... Margaret Ellen Davis age 86, the daughter of Ralph Leroy and Beulah Mae [Perks] Stanford, was born March 1, 1923 at Leon, Iowa. She passed away at her home at Westview Acres in Leon on Sunday, January 23, 2010.

Margaret was raised in Decatur County, Iowa and graduated from Leon High School. She was a member of Saint Brendan's Catholic Church. In 1940 she married Samuel Walker Davis. In 1941 they had one son, Dixie Lee Davis, who was stillborn. They later divorced.

She worked at Vaughn Smith studio as a photographer and painter for a number of years. She moved to Des Moines where she was a bookkeeper for Super Value Stores and a secretary for attorney Nick Friedman. She met and married Kenneth Davenport. They owned and operated a business in Des Moines and Osceola, Iowa. Upon retiring, they purchased a home in Van Wert, Iowa and resided there until Kenneth passed away. In September 1992, Walker and Margaret reunited in marriage. They made their home in Tingley, Iowa until Walker's death on March 14, 1997. Margaret then moved back to Leon.

Margaret enjoyed playing the organ, shopping, spending time with her family and friends, and taking road trips with her sister Nadene and Ardie Hall.

Preceding her in death were her parents; infant son Dixie Lee; husbands, Kenneth Davenport and Walker Davis; sister Nadene Hall; brother Bill Stanford; and sister-in-law Marge Stanford.

Survivors include her sister Barbara Binning and husband Gordon of Lamoni, Iowa; brother-in-law Ardie Hall of Leon; nieces and nephews: Sondra Phipps of Leon, Dianna & Eldon Brenizer of Decatur, Iowa, Jimmy Hall of Leon, Pam & Jim Bethards of Cameron, Missouri, Ron Kelly and friend Flora Rice, Bob & Janet Kelly, all of Lamoni, and Jolene & Dave Hardin of Arizona; Mike & Trish Stanford, and Penny Morris, all of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; many great nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends. Margaret will be missed and lovingly remembered by her family friends. We love you Moggie!
