PALMER, Wayne Burbank, 83, of Leon, Iowa, died January 23, 2010 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, due to injuries caused in an accident. Wayne had already made cremation arrangements. No services are planned at this time.

WAYNE BURBANK PALMER ... Wayne Burbank Palmer, age 83, son of Carrel Vern and Sarah Olive [Collins] Palmer, was born near Van Wert, Iowa, July 19, 1926. He passed away January 23, 2010 in Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, due to injuries caused in an accident.

Wayne grew up west of Van Wert, Iowa, helping with the farm work, except for about four years. They lived in Van Wert about three years and in Clarke County, Near Leslie, one year.

The family bought a farm near Garden Grove, Iowa in the early 1940's. while there, Wayne served his country in the Army.

His parents bought a farm in Wayne County in the late 1940's. Wayne was there with them. While there, he and his parents went to California for two years. He and his dad worked in a machinist shop. They came back to their Wayne County farm.

Later, they bought and moved to a farm south of Leon.

Wayne liked to go to summer ball games and bowling before his parents needed more care. He and his parents liked to go fishing. A highlight for all three of them was a fishing trip to Minnesota in 1951.

Wayne never married. He chose to stay with his parents and care for them. After they passed away, he remained there on the farm. He didn't get very far from home. He did visit a younger brother regularly at the Care Center in Leon. This younger brother Harold, passed away just three days prior to Wayne's passing.

Preceding Wayne in death were his parents; brother, Harold; brother-in-law, Arnie Smith; sisters-in-law, Maxine Palmer and Ruth Palmer; nephews, Gary Moore and Jimmy Palmer, and Lloyd Moore.

Surviving are brothers, Carrel Palmer, Garden Grove, Iowa, Robert Palmer and Raymond (Evelyn) Palmer, Leon; sister, Christine Smith, Huxley, Iowa; Ladine Palmer, Leon; nieces, nephews, many cousins and friends.
