Decatur County Journal
Leon, Iowa
Thursday, October 9, 1913

ROBERT A. SHELTON, a former resident of Decatur, was found dead at his farm
near Chanute, Kansas, Sunday morning, September 28th. The remains were
brought to this county and the funeral services held at Decatur last
Thursday, interment following in the Decatur Cemetery.

Mrs. SADIE DORSEY, a sister of Mr. SHELTON, made her home with him. On the
day before his death she had gone to the home of Mr. and Mrs. J.G. Casebeers
but a short distance away for a few days visit. Mr. SHELTON had been in
Chanute on Saturday and that evening on his way home had stopped at the home
of a neighbor where a social was being held. He remained there until about
midnight then going on to this home. Sunday morning parties going out to
his farm from Chanute found the body of Mr. SHELTON lying near a chair with
his clothing partly removed. He had doubtless been stricken as he was
preparing to retire for the night. Mrs. DORSEY was hastily summoned and
physicians called but death had resulted many hours before. The funeral
held at Decatur last Thursday was attended by a large number of relatives
and old friends. Mr. SHELTON was about 55 years of age at the time of his
death.

According to the 1860 census - he is the son of Medley T. Shelton and Naomi
(French) Shelton.
He and his family are in the 1900 Cherokee Co., Kansas census, however, I
can't read his wife or children's names -- others are living with them also.

I checked the Decatur Website and couldn't find a marriage for him.. Just curious...
