JOHN B. GILLHAM, son of JOHN NEWTON GILLHAM and wife, ELIZABETH, was born
May 16, 1838, near Glasgow, Jefferson County, Iowa and died on the 17th of
October, 1913, at the home of E.J. SANKEY in Leon, Iowa. He came with his
father's family to Decatur County, Iowa in 1855, locating on a farm about
four miles northeast of Leon. In 1859 he went to California and lived in
California, Nevada and Washington. Coming from Montesano, Washington, in
1895, he made his home with his brother-in-law from that time up to his
death. He was a blacksmith by trade, and was an honest, industrious man.

The funeral services were held at the home of E.J. SANKEY in northwest Leon
last Sunday afternoon at two o'clock, conducted by Rev. Guy J. Fansher,
Pastor of the Leon Methodist Church. A quartette, consisting of Miss
Gretchen Hurst, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Manley, and Dr. J.W. Rowell sang two
helpful hymns. Prominent business men of Leon acted as pall bearers.
Interment was in the Leon Cemetery.
