November 14, 1912

The subject of our sketch, REBECCA JANE BLAKESLEY, daughter of PAYTON and
JEMIMA LIEUALLEN, was born in Tennessee, October 22, 1834, and departed this
life November 1, 1912, at the home of Mrs. S.A. DALE, her age being 78 years
and 10 days.

She, with her parents, moved to Mercer County, Missouri, where she grew to
womanhood. At the age of 17 years she joined the Missionary Baptist Church
at New Salem where she loved to go. She lived a devoted Christian until
death released her. She was a loving mother and a kind friend to all who
knew her. She was united in marriage to GEORGE BLAKESLEY, November 30, 1855
She leaves to mourn her death four children, Mrs. MELVINA CAMPBELL; Mrs.
JULIA DALE; GEORGE and JOHN BLAKESLEY; 21 grandchildren and 16 great
grandchildren. Since the death of her husband, thirteen years ago, she has
made her home with her children, where in those homes she will be greatly
missed for she was a kind and loving mother, a true companion. She will be
missed in the church and in the neighborhood for there is none can fill her
place for all respected her, both old and young, for she was grandmother to
all. The Lord's will be done, not ours. Her body was followed from the
home of S.A. DALE by a large procession of sympathizing friends and
neighbors to New Salem Church, where funeral services were held by the
writer of this sketch. Scripture lesson read: Proverbs 4. Text 18 verse,
But the path of the just is as the shining light that shineth more and more
unto the perfect day."

The life of Sister BLAKESLEY is proof of this text, as she gave her life to
the Savior when young. She grew in grace from year to year, showing to the
world that there was a reality in the religion which she had in her
possession. This she proved by often visiting the sick, helping the poor
and needy, being a true friend to all. After funeral services her body was
borne by six of her grandsons to New Salem Cemetery where it was tenderly
laid by the side of her companion, who had preceded her in death. There to
await the resurrection morn.
