DEATH NOTICE:

HENSON, Dan, 51, of Garden Grove, Iowa, died Sunday, November 18, 2007 at home. Funeral services will be Friday, Nov. 23 at 10:00 a.m., at Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon with burial following in the Garden Grove Cemetery with Rev. Terry Roberts officiating.

Visitation is Thursday, Nov. 22, Thanksgiving Day, beginning at 2:00 p.m. with family from 4:00-6:00 p.m.

Survivors include wife, April Henson, of Garden Grove.

DAN HENSON ... Danny Ray Henson, age 51 of Garden Grove, IA, son of Leonard Paul and Clara Belle [Chambers] Henson, was born March 25, 1956 in St. Jospeh, MO and died at his home in Garden Grove on November 18, 2007.

Dan grew up in St. Joe. He met April Ann Hewitt of St. Joe and married her 6 weeks later on June 23, 1978. They were married at Dan's sister's home and have shared 30 years of marriage together. Three children were born to Dan and April: Shaun Paul, David Lee, and Patricia Gail. Dan also had a son from a previous marriage, Daniel Ray.

Dan worked as a laborer in various jobs in the St. Joe area. In 1989 the family moved to Garden Grove to be near his mother. Dan operated a forklift for Power Logistics in Osceola, IA.

Dan and April's home was always open and welcome to everyone. They raised a nephew and two nieces for six years: Ashley, Ricky, and Amy McGuire. They are also currently helping raise baby niece Kendra Hewitt. Dan loved his family very much and enjoyed having them around him. He was a proud Dad who attended the boys football and baseball games and Tricia's Iowa State Basketball Tournament in 2001 for Mormon Trail.

Dan also enjoyed working on cars, fishing, gardening, watching All Star Wrestling, and his dog Spice. Dan was always there for anyone who needed him.

Preceding him in death were his father Leonard Henson; mother Clara Henson Cogdill; step-father Elva Cogdill; infant brother Larry Paul Henson; infant sister Connie Jo Henson; sister May Jean Ortman; sisters-in-law Rose Henson and Linda Atchison; father-in-law Jim Hewitt; and stepfather-in-law Charles Davis.

Dan is survived by his wife April Henson of Garden Grove; children: Daniel Hawkins and wife Peggy of Elwood, KS, Shaun Henson and wife Melisa of St. Joe, David Henson and wife Shannon of Wathena, KS and Patricia Henson of Chariton, IA; granddaughters Justice, Raven and Jordan, and another grandchild on the way; 4 brothers: Ernie Henson of Bakersfield, CA, Tom Henson and wife Eva of St. Joe, Mike Henson and wife Sharon of Florida, and Larry Dean Henson of Des Moines, IA; two sisters, Tammy Martinez and husband Oscar of Kansas City, MO and Mary Sue McGuire and Scott of Des Moines; mother-in-law nancy Davis of St. Joe; step-mother-in-law Sue Hewitt of Weston, MO; all of April's family; nieces and nephews, including Ashley, Ricky and Amy McGuire of Des Moines and Kendra Hewitt of their home in Garden Grove; and many other relatives and friends.
