CARRIE ALLEN HENRY ... Carrie Allen, age 87 of Leon, Iowa, the daughter of Lewis Cleveland and Lavena Isabel [Smith] Main, was born in Decatur County, Iowa on January 9, 1920. She died at Westview Acres in Leon on Sunday, November 4, 2007.

Carrie was the oldest of two girls. She started her education at Sunny Slide, a country brick school west of Leon, near what is now Little River Lake, until her mother died February, 1930. Carrie and her sister were taken to live with their great aunt, Minerva Gardner, and her brother, their great uncle, Jack Strange. Carrie finished school in Leon, graduating in 1939.

She was baptized into the Leon Christian Church in 1950. She married George Oliver Gunter on June 8, 1966 at the Christian Church in Leon. He died of lung cancer on August 30, 1974. On October 6, 1979 she married Elmer Lee Henry at the Church of Christ in Leon. They enjoyed nearly 13 years of marriage before his death from liver cancer on August 9, 1992.

Carrie lived her life in and around the Leon area. She was a 50-year member of the Rebecca Lodge and the V.F.W. Auxiliary for several years, serving as Chaplain of district # 3778. She loved all kinds of flowers, working her garden, sharing her tomatoes, and showing off her vegetables at the county fair. She liked to read, collect antique dishes, do jig saw puzzles, bird watch, go for car rides, and eat out.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands and sister, Alice Main, on March 22, 1978. Those missing her most are her cousins, who called her Dolly, and other relatives and friends.
