Relatives and friends in this county have received the sad news of the death of MRS. C.L. AKES at her home in Glencross, South Dakota, on Tuesday, May l3th. MRS. AKES will be remembered here by many, her maiden name being MARY ARMSTRONG, daughter of MR. and MRS. W.L. ARMSTRONG, who resided just east of Leon, and her childhood days were spent in this vicinity. With her husband and parents she removed to South Dakota several years ago. She was laid to rest in the beautiful cemetery at Timber Lake, South Dakota. The sympathy of many Decatur friends is extended to the bereaved husband and children and other relatives.

MARY ANNA ARMSTRONG (known to friends and neighbors as MRS. C.L. AKES) was born near Garden Grove, Iowa, December l2, l895. She grew to womanhood at Leon, Iowa, and was married to C.L. AKES, March l0, l9l2. To their union were born two sons. She died May l3, l924, at the age of 28 years, 5 months and l day. She was buried in the Timber Lake Cemetery.

In her girlhood, MRS. AKES united with the Christian Church in her community. Within a year of her death she brought her membership to the Baptist Church of Glencross, in which she has taken a very interested and worthy part. She gave abundant testimony of being ready to go, and with but one regret in that she was not allowed to live to bring up her children in the faith.

There remains to mourn this loss: her husband, C.L. AKES; her sons, HAROLD, age 9, and CHARLES, age 5, and SARAH, a foster daughter, four sisters, two of whom were able to attend the funeral; and her father and mother who were also in attendance. One sister and one brother had preceded her in death. Besides these, there are many other relatives and a host of friends and neighbors who are keenly touched by this bereavement.

The funeral was held Saturday, May l7. After a song and prayer at the home near Glencross, the remains were taken to Timber Lake where a public service was held in the Methodist Church, and a large crowd gathered to pay their tributes. The services were conducted by Rev. Willard Osborn, Pastor of the Baptist Churches of Glencross and Timber Lake. Special music was rendered by a quartet of the Methodist Church and a solo by Mrs. Osborn.
