SADIE E. BEDELL, daughter of DAVID and MARTHA BEDELL, was born in Wapello County, near Ottumwa, December 9, l863, and passed away at her home near Lamoni, May 7, l924, being 60 years, 5 months and 28 days of age at the time of her death. She spent the early years of her life with her parents in Wapello County and came with them to Decatur County in l880. She was united in marriage to LOUIS N. STEPHENS, February l5, l893, and lived the remainder of her life in Decatur County. To this union were born two children, a daughter, MABEL, born January 7, l896, who passed away in infancy and a son, LOREN W., born April 28, l900, who lives near Lamoni.

MRS. STEPHENS was the sixth child of a family of eight, there being four boys and four girls; JOHN BEDELL, deceased; MRS. L.T. EARL, of San Pedro, California; CALEB BEDELL, deceased; SUSAN BEDELL, of Lamoni; HENRY BEDELL, deceased; JESSE B. BEDELL, of Mercer, Mo., and BELLE L. WHETSTONE, deceased.

She claimed Jesus as her Savior and united with the Methodist Episcopal Church in l9l2, remaining true to her church, a member of the Elk Chapel Methodist Church at the time of her death. Her beautiful Christian life was a pattern for others. She was a kind neighbor and always found time to minister in homes afflicted with sickness, sorrow or trouble. She will be missed by all who knew her, but will never be forgotten.

Her illness was of long duration, having taken sick December l9, l922. She was a patient sufferer, always trying to be cheerful and keep the burden of her pain from those about her. She had some hope of recovery when a sudden cold set in and the Master called her home to rest in peace.

She leaves to mourn for her a loving husband, a son and wife, one brother, JESSE BEDELL and two sisters, MRS. L.T. EARL and SUSAN BEDELL, who cared for her through her last illness. Her parents have passed to the Great Beyond. Besides these, she leaves many other relatives and hosts of friends to mourn her departure.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in Lamoni. Interment at Elk Cemetery, Friday, May 9th.
