Thursday, May 8, l924ELIZABETH CARTER was born at Outwell, England, on the 24th day of Dec. l830. Died at the home of her son, GEORGE, on April 23, l924, age 93 years, 3 months and 29 days. She was united in marriage to THOMAS BOYCE on Nov. 30, l85l, (who died Jan. 27, l9l7.) To this union were born eleven children, five of them passed in the other world while yet in infancy. In l858, MR. and MRS. BOYCE, with their daughter, MARY, their one surviving child, emigrated to America and settled at Sandusky, Ohio. There they soon adjusted themselves to the new life and changed conditions of their adopted land and became dependable citizens of that community. In l869, they cast their eyes west and beheld the smiling lands of Iowa's fertile plains and they answered the call and settled at Garden Grove. Here friends and their sterling worth enabled them to grapple their friends to them with bands of steel.
MRS. BOYCE leaves to mourn their loss, six children: MRS. MARY HOADLEY, of Cainsville, Mo.; MRS. SUSAN WELLS; J.L. BOYCE; C.C. BOYCE and T.W. BOYCE, of Humeston; and G.R. BOYCE, of Sheffield, Iowa; besides twenty-four grandchildren, a number of great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.
Early in life she united with the Wesleyan Church of England and later when residing at Garden Grove, united with the M.E. Church there. Her constant life assured us that we who mourn her loss are not to weep as those who have no hope, but we comfort ourselves with the expectation of a glad reunion on that bright and happy shore when the storms of life are o'er.
The funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon in the M.E. Church at Garden Grove, by Rev. Young, and burial made in the Garden Grove Cemetery. A large number of relatives and friends were in attendance.
