SILAS WHISLER, a well-known resident of Leon, passed away at the Leon Hospital last Friday morning. MR. WHISLER had been in failing health for some time, and was taken to the hospital the first of last week to undergo an operation as soon as he was able to stand it, but he was too weak and continued to fail until his death.
MR. WHISLER had resided in Leon and near here for many years, and enjoyed the friendship of a large circle of friends.

OBITUARY

SILAS WHISLER was born near Tipton, Indiana, November l5, l853, and departed this life at Leon, Iowa, May 2, l924, at the age of 70 years, 5 months and l7 days. MR. WHISLER came to Iowa from Indiana in his vigorous young manhood at the age of 25 and three years later, February 24, l88l, he was united in marriage to AMANDA DALE. To this union two daughters were born, MRS. HELEN TURNER, of Hot Springs, Arkansas, and MISS MARGARET WHISLER, of Chicago, Illinois. There are also one sister, MRS. J.T. SIMS, of Frankfort, Indiana, and one brother, L.H. WHISLER, of Pueblo, Colorado, to mourn the passing of this loved one.

MR. WHISLER united with the church in early life and moved his membership to Leon when making his new home here. He was a friend to all and an enemy to none. His passing draws to our attention again the sureness of death.

Funeral services were held at the Christian Church, Sunday afternoon at 2:30, conducted by Rev. Weaklend and was attended by a large concourse of relatives and friends. Interment was in the Leon Cemetery.

The out of town relatives who attended the services were; Mr. and Mrs. L.A. Turner, of Hot Springs, Arkansas; Miss Margaret Whisler, of Chicago, Ill.; Mrs. Emaline Stoner; Mr. and Mrs. J.T. Whisler and Mrs. Ernest Pontius, of Ridgeway, Mo.; Mr. and Mrs. John Knox, of Casey, Iowa and John Fierce, Van Wert, Iowa.
