Thursday, February l4, l924JEREMIAH PICKERING was born February ll, l843, in Delaware County, Ohio, and died at his home in Leon, Iowa, February 6, l924; aged 80 years, ll months and 26 days. He was united in marriage to ABIGAIL BURNISON in Larue, Ohio, May l7, l863. To this union ten children were born, five of these having preceded their father to the grave. His bereaved wife and remaining children were continually with him during his long illness. He was a member of the Christian Advent Church and has lived a faithful Christian life.
The deceased and his wife have lived in Decatur County since l866. He was one of the pioneers of the county and has been identified with its progress through all these years. He who sleeps the sleep of the just, truly a Godly man has gone to his rest. With his bereaved wife he leaves to mourn his departure, five children: LEANDER and FRANK PICKERING and MRS. HARRY CRAGO, of Leon; MRS. MAVILLA GATES, of Merino, Colorado, and CLYDE PICKERING, of Madrid, Iowa; twenty-six grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and a host of friends.
Funeral services were conducted at the Brethren Chapel Friday afternoon, Feb. 8, by Evangelist Wm. S. Irvine, following which the body was laid to rest in Leon Cemetery.
